Final Reviews at UTS

Architecture Without Occupants, Masters Studio

"Could we regain our architectural initiative by simply embracing abstraction, embracing the lack of inhabitation, and go back to an architecture which is really radical, an architecture which is not beige, an architecture where there is no handicapped access, an architecture that can be really pure, stark, uninhabited and amazing? Sooner or later we will have to establish a relationship with the robotised world."

Rem Koolhaas, Meetings on Architecture, 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Architecture Without Occupants investigates the design of buildings in which human inhabitation is not the primary consideration. The formal, spatial and organisational agendas of these server farms, storage facilities, power stations, seed banks and drone ports prefigure an era of post-human architecture. The students have been challenged to not only consider the design possibilities of such projects, but to see their own work through another pair of eyes.

Saturday 05/11, David Neustein and Grace Mortlock's Master Studio, Architecture Without Occupants will present for their Final Review. There will be 7 projects on display in a student-curated space, with an exhibition followed by Q+A.
